Description
Søre Gullfjelltoppen (962 m), locally also called the South Pole, is the southernmost point on the Gullfjell massif.
From the parking lot in Hausdalen, cross the bridge and follow the gravel road inland for about 4 km, until you see a small cairn (crusher mound) on the left. Here, there is also a high-voltage pylon lower in the terrain than the others – this marks the start of the path up towards the South Pole. The path first goes through forest, then through rocky terrain and further above the tree line in mountainous terrain. The hike is known as Bergen's longest uphill, with around 800 meters of elevation gain.
The cairn is located at the very south of the Gullfjell plateau (962 m above sea level) and is called the “South Pole”. Be careful of loose rocks. Return the same way, or continue on a long hike into Gullfjell.
