Description
The hike starts from the barrier at Svartediket and follow the gravel road to the end of the water. Follow the signs to the right towards Vidden and Ulriken down a hill and turn left at Utløbotn. To the left at the wooden bridge and the sign with “Kulturminneløype” shows the direction to follow.
The cultural heritage trail in Våkendalen takes you through four previously inhabited farms, Tarlebø, Kobbeltveit, Hardbakke and Garmannslund. Today there are only ruins left, but Bergens Skog og Treplantningsselskap has set up information boards that tell the story of those who lived here. With pictures from everyday life and interviews with survivors, this is an interesting walk that really gives an impression of what it was like to live here not so long ago. Around the turn of the last century, the farms were bought up and closed down to prevent pollution of the drinking water from the Svartediket. The area was planted with spruce and is beautiful and atmospheric to walk in.
The return trip can be taken the same way or over Rundemannen if a longer trip is desired.
