Description
A demanding and beautiful ski trip to Blåfjellet in Vaksdal, with long mountain sections, few people and impressive views from the summit at 1101 meters above sea level.
From the parking lot at Vinningsleitet, just strap on your skis. The snow often stays in this area for a long time, and even late in the season it is usually possible to start the hike right by the main road. Follow the ridge slightly southwest up to Ørnahaugen, a small peak with a nice view.
From Ørnahaugen we ran down into the valley and further down towards Ljosvatnet. From here we walked steeply up the valley above the water, before turning right onto the ridge that leads further towards Gråsida.
If you don't want such a steep start, you can follow our return route through the valley between Nonhaugen and Ørnahaugen, thus avoiding the descent to Ljosvatnet.
If you want to include an extra mountain peak on your trip, you can go up Gråsida. We chose to go around Gråsida on the north side to save a few meters in altitude. Then you run down into the valley where the high-voltage pylons cross the terrain. From here you can see the top of Blåfjellet in a southwesterly direction.
Walk zigzag up the ridge of Blåfjellet (NB: it is steep here and there may be dangerous snowdrifts), just south of Gavlen, and continue to the top. At the top there is a beautiful cairn, and the view towards the nearby mountains is impressive. Blåfjellet is a little-visited mountain peak, and there are generally few people who travel in this mountain area. Here there are therefore good chances of having the mountain almost entirely to yourself.
We recommend taking the return route the same way, as shown by the GPS Track .
This is a ski trip that takes place in avalanche-prone terrain. Therefore, check the weather and avalanche forecast carefully before setting out on your trip. Make good judgments along the way, and feel free to take a safer detour if you are unsure of the GPS Track .
Have a good trip!
