Description
The mountain hike to Nesheimsnipa (1036 m above sea level) in Eksingedalen is a spectacular experience that combines great views and impressive trail development.
The hike starts in Yksendalen (475 m above sea level) and goes via Yksendalsstølen (686 m above sea level), before continuing towards the top of Nesheimsnipa.
One of the highlights along the route is the so-called 'Stairway to Heaven' – a Sherpa-built stone staircase divided into three different sections: at the start, halfway (just after Yksendalsstølen) and towards the end, where the steepest section leads up to Nesheimsnipa.
This staircase project, to be completed in 2024, consists of around 1,000 steps and is the result of several years of work in demanding conditions. The stones, some weighing up to a ton, were sourced from nearby quarries and carefully placed to ensure a safe and durable path.
The hike is well marked all the way. At the top is a large cairn. The return trip is the same way you came.
