Round trip over Vardafjellet (336 m) from Kaland

This is a nice round trip over Vardafjellet through varied nature. The first part is on paved and gravel roads. At Orregrinda the trip turns into a marshy path, so please wear hiking boots that go above the ankle.

From the parking lot at the KIL hall, follow the sidewalk along Osvegen towards Nesttun. Just before Sandven, cross Osvegen. Be careful because there is no sidewalk here. Follow the side road at Nedre Sandven through the farmyard. Just past there is a sign showing a hiking trail to the right and then to the left. Walk the long hill up towards Stego. When you reach intersection no. 2, turn right at the sign 'Orretua'. Follow the gravel road up to Gavlen past Stego Grinda.

From here you follow the gravel road north and continue around the right turn. This route has nice views first towards Totland and then Bontveit. At the Next intersection where the road comes up from Hednefjellet you should go right. Follow the gravel road south to Orregrinda.  
Just behind Orregrinda there is a trail sign 'Orretua'. Follow this to Orretua' where there is both a cairn and a mailbox with a book.

From the cairn, follow the trail sign 'Stego'. The trail first goes north then south. It is wet and you have to cross many marshy sections. The trail is marked with small wooden sticks in the trees. Follow the trail all the way south towards Vardafjellet. Here there is a mailbox and a book. Follow the trail south to the sign 'KIL hallen'. When you get further along the ridge, you get the most beautiful view of the trip over Kalandsvannet. Follow the trail to a new crossroads and go where the sign 'KIL hallen' is.  

Follow the path over the marsh and further into the spruce forest. Then just follow the path down through the spruce forest, over the gate and on the forest road down to Kaland / Kil-hallen.
