Hike to Altaneset in Fusa

Altaneset is a 5 km long headland that juts out between Ådlandsfjorden and Eikelandsfjorden.

This is a long hike that goes off the marked trail. There are many animal tracks and the trail is unclear. At the steep cliffs along the Eikelansfjorden the trail is good. It is recommended that you are experienced and pay close attention to the terrain.

Go to the end of the parking lot and you will see an opening in the bushes on the right. There is a metal stake stuck into the ground here. Go through the bushes and follow the path to the left. Follow the path up the hill and over to the other side until you come down to a large bog. Here you should go left just before the bog (not straight ahead). The path is unclear but you will see some Christmas gift ribbon marks in the trees. Follow the path further down into Midtfjelldalen and then up to the other side. The path is bad here so follow the terrain. When you have come up it flattens out and you follow hilly terrain first to the west and then to the south. Now you come onto a path and you can see bird boxes in the trees. Cross Altatjørnhaugen and go down to another dump with Altatjørna on your left. Go up to the other side until it flattens out again and the terrain becomes open. Here the path is bad but it is easy to see the direction. Go west to the highest peak which is Dormannsnipen. There is a small mini cairn at the top.

From Dormannsnipen (269 m. above sea level), which is the highest point of the trip, you can look out over Altaneset. You will walk all the way to the end of this headland. From the top you can see a hunting lodge. Continue down towards this. The terrain changes between mountains and small forests. But it is open so you can easily stay on course. From the hunting lodge, continue on towards the left side of Altaneset. Cross the marsh and walk towards the south-west until you come onto a path (most likely just a deer Track ). The path leads you out on the left side of Altaneset. There are many great viewpoints. There are no exposed sections but stay on the path. Towards the end the path is bad and you cross some marshes. Here you just have to stay in the direction. On the last part down towards the headland the path becomes good again and you arrive at your destination.

Out on the headland, the Ådlandsfjord and the Eikelandsfjord meet. There is a nice view south and to the nearby mountains Møsnuken, Rødsfjellet and Fusafjellet. Right in front you can see the Hattvik-Venjaneset ferry.

Return the same way or be picked up by boat. Remember to bring food as the way back is long.
