Description
This is a nice trip that you can either do in one day, or split it up with an overnight stay in the BT cabin.
Part 1 of the trip goes from Mjølfjell station to the BT hut. The stage is approximately 5 km long with around 300 meters of elevation gain.
The easiest way to get to Mjølfjell is by train. It is also possible to drive, but then the challenge arises of picking up the car again, since the trip ends in Ulvik.
From Mjølfjell station, the trail first goes down the long hill (the gravel road Allmenningsvegen). Then turn left between two houses, onto a tractor road that leads down to the main road (Raundalsvegen). After about 50 meters, a green DNT sign appears on the left side marked "Ulvik / BT-hytten". From here, follow the road down to the river, where you cross the suspension bridge. Just after the bridge, the path turns right and follows the river further.
The hike continues on a good, T-marked trail. The trail gradually turns upwards to the left, and this is where most of the climb occurs. It constantly follows the river on the left side southwards. As the altitude increases, the forest thins out. The trail follows the river, which alternately flows through water and river courses. At the very bottom of the valley, on the left side, is the BT cabin. Just follow the trail all the way forward.
The BT cabin is beautifully situated by Vestevatnet. There is a kitchen with a gas stove, and water is collected from the water below. The cabin sleeps six, so accommodation should be booked in advance. Remember to bring food, as there is no provision store. There is also a rowboat by the lake for guests to use.
After an overnight stay in the cabin, the trip can continue to Ulvik the Next day.
