Panoramic tour from Skåldalsnipa to Herlandsfjellet

Nice panoramic mountain hike over three peaks just east of Arna.

From the parking lot along the road at Espeland prison, follow the gravel road until you see a sign on the left marked "Skåldalsnipa". Turn off here and follow the steep path that first winds through the forest, before leading you further up towards Skåldalsnipa. The last section goes above the tree line and offers great views.

At the cairn on Skåldalsnipa, continue towards Skåldalsfjellet. The first part after the cairn is on a clear path in slightly hilly terrain, up to a summit at 681 m. A good tip is to go straight ahead (eastwards) towards Skåldalsfjellet – then you will meet the path again just before the summit itself.

There is no clear path from Skåldalsfjellet to Herlandsfjellet. Follow the ridge down northeast towards Minneskardet, and then back up along the ridge to Herlandsfjellet. From the top, there is a clear path down to the parking lot at Osavatnet.

From the parking lot at Osavatnet, follow Gullfjellsvegen downhill. After about 2.5 km, turn right onto a smaller road. Cross the bridge, go through a residential yard and turn left. The road turns to gravel and leads you back to where you started the climb towards Skåldalsnipa. Follow the gravel road back to the starting point at Espeland prison.
