Access

From Bergen you drive to Kvamskogen. Drive past NAf (Kvamskogen Landhandleri) and continue around the bend. Turn left at Aktiven Skiheis. You can either park down in the large parking lot or you can drive up the gravel road to the upper parking lot. This is where the GPS Track for the trip starts.

Parking

Large parking lot. Parking costs NOK 100 per day. Payment with Vipps.

Description

From the parking lot, go over the bridge and follow the gravel road up the bends. When you reach Steinskvanndalen, follow the road inland. On the right side you have the mountain Botnanuten and on the left side Byrkjefjellet.

Walk Steinskvanndalsvegen past Steinskvanndalsvatnet (right side). At the end of the water, cross the bridge and go right towards the cabins. Cross another bridge over the mouth of the Stølso River. Just after the bridge there is a sign marked 'Fotasperrnuten (1194 m.)'. Follow the path north-east across the field. It is marked with red wooden pegs. Cross the river that comes down from the mountain (from right to left) and follow the path towards the foot of the mountain.

NB: If there is a lot of water in the river, be careful where you cross.

Follow the path that goes steeply up the mountainside (right side). The path is good, but in some places it goes steeply down to the river. After a bit up towards Kollafjell it is not as steep. Before an even steeper climb. Then it is alternately steep and slightly gentler parts. When you get to the top there are several great viewpoints.

The last part of the hike is not as steep. Here the trail zigzags between many fun rock formations. The trail is good almost the entire way, and is marked with red paint spots.

At the top there is a small cairn. No book unfortunately. The view of the nearby mountains is top class.

Return the same way.
NB: In some places the path is divided so it is easy to go wrong. Take your time following the markings as there are some scary cliffs and cliffs. Avoid this walk if it is foggy.
