Description

Sandvik Battery is a historic military installation in Bergen.

This battery was built in the 1890s as part of Bergen's coastal defense system. The purpose of the battery was to defend Bergen and the nearby approach from possible attacks from the sea. As this has been a military installation, it is strategically located with a fine view of the approach to Bergen.

This tour starts in Sandviken and you walk on a winding gravel road that winds up Munkebotn. The last part up to the battery is on a path. From the top you can walk down the Leave Path which is a steep path that consists of 220 steps, built by Sherpas from Nepal.
