Description
This is a popular hike from Ustaoset to a peak on the Hardangervidda plateau, which offers an impressive 360-degree view.
We parked and started the walk from the main road. From the main road you go inwards along Verpestølsvegen. For a shorter walk you can drive inwards along this road, pay and drive through the barrier, and park in the parking lot just after the bridge.
When you reach the parking lot at the bend, the walk turns onto a path. There is a sign marked 'Ustetind' on the left side of the road. Here you follow a well-trodden path up Ustebergstølen. There is a steady climb all the way, and the path is clearly marked with cairns and signs. A few hundred meters before the top it flattens out and goes downhill. Here you can see the summit cairn in the Distance . Then there is a small ascent before the top.
At the top there is a great view. You can see large parts of Hardangervidda, Hårteigen, Hardangerjøkulen, and Hallingskarvet. You can also just glimpse Gaustatoppen.
In winter it is a popular ski trip. Return the same way!
