The main staircase in Skurdalen

Short but exciting stair hike near Geilo. The hike starts about 10 minutes' drive from the city center.

Along the main road, just before Fagerli camp school, there is a sign marked "Hovetrappa". Park on the opposite side of the road at the entrance to Nord-Skurdalen.

Cross the main road and walk up to the start. First a short, small staircase, then you follow a well-marked path along and around a farm before the main staircase itself begins. In total, there is approx. 160 meters of elevation gain and around 1,000 steps.

The climb is short and efficient on solid steps from the forest to an airy viewpoint. Perfect as an evening walk or as the first activity after arrival. The top offers panoramic views of Skurdalen and the hills around Geilo. Return the same way. Suitable for most people – a little pulse, big reward.
