Hiking tips day by day
Day 1: Totland light trail – calm evening trip
Photo: On tour Norway - Totland light skiing stadium
Take a trip to Totland, where the light trail provides safe and easy skiing even when it’s dark in the city. The light trail is about 3.3 km long, and along the route, you will find many fun slopes to ski down. There is only one steep uphill – otherwise, the ascent is gradual.
If you want a longer ski trip, you can continue on groomed tracks to Grindåsen and further on Humlestølsvegen to Rambjørvatnet, before returning the same way. There are also groomed ski tracks over to Frotveit light trail.
Distance: approx. 4–7 km, time: approx. 1–2 hours, Grade: Easy

Day 2: Over Vidden – Ulriken to Fløyen
Photo: On tour Norway - The city's signature crossing on skis – plateau, view, and a classic ending at Fløyen.
Start the day early, and take the gondola up to Ulriken. With good snow, the transition quickly becomes more mountain-like, and you feel far from cobblestones and city life. Over Vidden, you walk in open terrain with a steady ascent and gently rolling ridges. On clear days, the view towards Byfjorden and the surrounding mountains is a highlight in itself.
When you approach Fløyen, you get a natural 'reward' in the form of downhill sections and a nice ending back towards the city – perfect as the main trip of the weekend.
Distance: approx. 12–14 km, time: approx. 4–6 hours, Grade: Medium

Day 3: Gullfjelltoppen – summit hike to Bergen's highest mountain!
Photo: On a trip in Norway - The Cairn at Gullfjellstoppen
Start early from Osavatn and follow the gravel road to the dam at Svartavatnet. Take the road up on the right side and continue to the south end of the lake before a steeper incline up to a small resting hut. From there, you go in a steady ascent on a path to the Rescue Cabin. Further down into the valley and then along the cairn line up 'the Corkscrew' before the final stretch in open high mountain to Gullfjellstoppen with a large cairn and stunning views. Return the same way.
Distance: approx. 13–16 km, time: approx. 5–7 hours, Grade: Challenging
