Description
This is the 3rd and final stage of a great three-day ski trip through Stølsheimen, with Ortnevik by the Sognefjord as the final destination.
From Norddalshytta, the hike first climbs steeply past the regulated Norddalsvatnet lake. Then, you continue north through some valley depressions, partly along the same route as the summer trail, over a whole series of nameless smaller lakes and one with the traditional name Storevatnet. Before this, the last climb comes up the skerk east of Brydalsfjellet. Once you have crossed the skerk, a magical view opens up down towards the Sognefjord. The hike ends with a long descent to the DNT hut Brydalseter. If there is a lot of snow, you can ski all the way down to the hut.
From there, the skis must be carried on the backpack further down. The transition from the winter mountain to the spring atmosphere in the birch forest gives the trip an extra nice contrast. The last stage is on a forest road and then a regular road down to the pleasant village of Ortnevik.
If you haven't parked your car in Ortnevik, you can take the ferry from Ortnevik across the fjord to Nordeide. From there you can take the Norled fast boat from Nordeide to Bergen.
Mountain skis with steel edges are recommended on this trip.
NOTE: This is an unmarked route. You will cross several frozen bodies of water and in some places move through terrain that may be prone to avalanches. The trip therefore requires that you have experience traveling in the winter mountains, and that you can make good judgments both in avalanche terrain and when crossing frozen bodies of water. Remember to take a map and GPS.
