Description
Kleivafjellet offers an impressive view. One way you look towards Jølstervannet, and the other way inwards towards Kjøsnesfjorden. In Nikolai Astrup's painting called 'Kollen', Kleivafjellet is part of the motif, with some modifications.
From the parking lot there are signs marked 'Vikastøylen' and 'Kleivafjellet'. Walk a short Distance inland along the road and then on the marked path to the left. Follow the path through the forest, cross the road again and then continue on the path. It is marked with red sticks in the ground.
Follow the path that winds up the mountainside. It is well-maintained with stone steps. First you will come to a sign and a viewpoint with a shelter, perfect for a break if it rains. From here it is 100 meters to Vikastøylen, which consists of three old but well-maintained huts placed Next to each other.
From here the path continues to Kleivafjellet. First through the forest and then over a stream. From here you come above the tree line and get a nice view down to Skei. Follow the path that circles upwards between Litlefjellet and Kleivafjellet. Just before the top of Kleivafjellet you will come across a large rock. From here it is recommended to go right for a short round trip to the top which will give you a little extra experience and view. When you round the top, you will see a small cabin, and just behind you you will see the Kjøsnesfjorden. From the cabin you go north again and round back up to the top. At the top there is a beautiful cairn.
