Description

Skomakernibbå hangs majestically on the south side of Jøsenfjorden, 700 meters above the fjord. The hike starts at the parking lot at Hagalid. The first 3 kilometers of the hike is on a tractor road, which first takes you over pastures and then through forests. It is well signposted all the way, so you won't get lost.

As you continue, the tractor road climbs some steep hills and gradually becomes a path. You will then come up into a bog landscape where wooden bridges have been built to help you cross the soft bogs. Soon after, a steep path starts up to Øksafjellet, which involves light scrambling. When you get above the tree line, you will be rewarded with a fantastic view of Jøsenfjorden.

Once you have reached the top of Øksafjellet, you are on the mountain plateau. From here you can see the plateau of Skomakernibbå to the east. Follow the path across the expanse towards this mountain plateau until you reach the steep Ullviksjuvet gorge. The path then curves past and around the gorge. You will then first come to Karstykket (708 m above sea level), which is a smaller rock formation about 200 meters before you reach Skomakernibbå. Karstykket sticks out straight and is about 1 meter wide, with steep sides on all sides. It is a popular place to stop to take pictures, but it is not recommended to go out if you are afraid of heights.

Then continue on to Nibbå itself. It is not recommended to go out onto Nibbå itself, as it is loose and dangerous. The path therefore does not go all the way to the edge. Finally, also take a walk up to the cairn at Høgeheia (743 m) for an extra reward.
