Hike Madeira, 8 days
This eight-day hiking trip organized by Rolf's Travels takes you to Madeira, a lush and dramatic island in the Atlantic Ocean with levadas, mountain trails, steep coastal sections and great nature experiences in a small space.
Based in Funchal, you get a varied week of levada walking, mountain terrain, coastal paths and a quieter day along the way. Several of the days have alternative hikes, so that the experience can be adapted somewhat according to level and wishes.

Tour program
Day 1: Arrival in Madeira
The journey starts with a flight to Madeira and bus to the hotel. On some departures, the group can stay at different hotels, depending on what is chosen when booking.
Day 2: Levada Nova from Ponta do Pargo

A green start to the walking week along the levada with a view of the sea and agricultural landscape.
The first hike leaves from Ponta do Pargo and follows the Levada Nova through peaceful surroundings. Here you get a classic Madeira experience with a water channel, green vegetation and open areas facing the sea.
Distance: approx. 13 km, time: approx. 4.5 hours, grading: medium
Day 3: Vereda do Larano or Ponta de São Lourenço

Day three offers a choice between green coastal walking and more raw and exposed nature at the far end of the island.
You can choose the Vereda do Larano from Machico via Boca do Risco to Porto da Cruz, a trip with great views of the north coast. The alternative is Ponta de São Lourenço, where the landscape is drier, more open and more dramatic.
Day 4: Pico Ruivo
The tour's big mountain day with a choice between a short summit tour and a more demanding mountain traverse.
The easier version goes from Achada do Teixeira to Pico Ruivo, Madeira's highest peak at 1,861 meters. The longer variant goes from Pico do Arieiro via Pico das Torres to Pico Ruivo in more dramatic terrain.
Day 5: Vereda do Fanal or Rabaçal and 25 springs

A lush day with a choice between highlands, laurel forest, levada and waterfalls.
One route goes over Paul da Serra and ends in Fanal, with open countryside and beautiful valleys. The other goes to Rabaçal and 25 springs, where levadas, waterfalls and green sinkholes make for a classic Madeira trip.

Day 6: Northwest Madeira and Porto Moniz
The program on this day is free for own activities, but Rolf's Travels also offers a full-day additional excursion to North-West Madeira and Porto Moniz. Here, Ribeira Brava, Madalena do Mar, Porto Moniz, the Laurissilva forest, Encumeada and Cabo Girão are visited.
Day 7: Levada Vale Paraiso

An easier and beautiful final walk on wide paths through green terrain near Funchal.
The last hike goes along the Levada Vale Paraiso from Choupana to Camacha. This is an easier trip that suits most people, and provides a quiet end to the week.
Distance: approx. 5.5 km, time: approx. 1.5–2 hours, grading: easy
Day 8: Return home
Last day on Madeira
After breakfast, the journey returns to the airport and on to home.
